Walk to Remember 2017

A DAY TO REMEMBER

On Saturday, May 6, 2017, we participated in the 7th Annual Walk to Remember at the Maple Grove Arboretum. The weather was absolutely a gift and was a backdrop to our activities of the day. Almost 500 participants took time to remember, together.

Here are a few highlights:

The Friends of the Angel volunteer group was thrilled to be able to donate a check for $5,000 to the City of Maple Grove to go toward the renovation project at the Angel of Hope. We presented the check to Karen Jaeger, City of Maple Grove Council member. She spoke of the partnership the city has with the parks and the importance of our Angel of Hope to the community.  If you would like to view the video of the Remembrance Ceremony, please click here.

During the service, we read all the names of the loved ones. We know how special it is to hear our loved one’s name. Participants were given a white flower they could place at their brick or on the Angel of Hope. Here is a photo of the Angel of Hope at the conclusion of the service.

The walk around Rice Lake is 4.5 miles. Many participants walked the whole way around while others turned around at one of the mile markers along the way. Regardless, taking time together to talk about your loved one is priceless. The time together walking down the trail is meant to be therapeutic and helpful. Once back from the walk, lunch and refreshments were provided.

More photos from the Walk to Remember can be found on our Facebook page or on our website. Please share with your family and friends.

Thank you to all those who participated in the Walk to Remember events this year. Also, we are so thankful to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped make the event possible. We want to invite others to join the Friends of the Angel volunteer group. Have you considered taking time to honor your loved one and join us? Do you have a few hours a month to share your gifts? We really need your help now more than ever. The Friends of the Angel has committed to raising $75,000 toward the renovation project at the Angel of Hope. Send us an email with your contact information and what you are interested in. We look forward to seeing you.
